Mimi’s Journey to 40!

JOY – A state of happiness or bliss.

As I countdown the months, days, hours, minutes to the GRAND 40! I realized I have been so busy “living” that I haven’t really taken time to experience JOY; TRUE JOY! So, going forward I’ve decided to not just go through the motions, but actually take time to enjoy life fully and allow myself to live a LIFE OF JOY!

I can’t think of a better way to do that, than spend more time with people I love; and do more of the things that bring me joy.

Have you made time for the people you love, and things that make you happy?

I am open to hearing your “JOY” ideas! Drop them in the comments below.

Color Me: Houston Sisters Launch Lipstick Line

Sisters, Chaun Vaughn (Professional Speaker) and Mimi McClure (Fashion Blogger) have always had their hand in something positive and empowering; so the expansion to a lipstick line is no different. “We wanted a line of bold, empowering and colorful lipsticks that last all day and give you the confidence to be more of who you are”, the sisters say.

Launching in November, the sisters will introduce their “Red, Pink, and Gloss – starter kit” to a select group of lipstick lovers at Hotel Ylem. Monday, November 19, the lipstick will be available for order, with a special BLACK FRIDAY sale.

Keep up with Chaun and Mimi to follow the expansion of #ColorMe

40 Under Forty, Red Carpet Style

July 19, 40 of Southern Universities well accomplished Alumni were recognized at the Inaugural 40 Under Forty Awards ceremony; kicking off the Southern University National Alumni Conference. This signature recognition event, was held at the beautiful Manship Theater in downtown Baton Rouge.

A  sea of blue and gold cocktail attire filled the theater as family members and friends waited to celebrate each honoree as they took the stage to accept their award. I am happy to share, I was one of the 40 recognized for pushing the mission of Southern University A&M College.

The evening began with a special VIP Reception, and concluded with a “Night On The Town”. What a wonderful way to show appreciation to alumni who continue to support the mission of the university.

Vegas, at 39!

Friday, June 1st, I boarded United flight 1129 and left all my worries and cares behind for a quick trip to Las Vegas. This was my first trip to Vegas; YES! I experienced Las Vegas for the first time, as a 39 year old.

I arrived at McCarran Airport, picked up my luggage, and met my friend Dee. I was hype and ready for (in my mind) a weekend of non-stop partying. We quickly grabbed a cab and were off to LINQ HOTEL to drop our bags and hit the town.

(RUNDOWN of how I spent my days in Vegas, with a few pics.)

Vegas – Day 1

Wax Figures and Walking

Friday, after we freshened up and changed clothes, we hit the Las Vegas Strip. Our first stop was Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. We purchased our libations, and took the escalator up to start the tour. Will Smith, Samuel Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg and many others were on display; but the highlight for me, was the wax figure of TUPAC (my husband).

Side note:Each time I go to a wax museum it absolutely creeps me out how lifelike these wax figures are. It’s looks like they come alive at night. (like “Night at the Museum”)

The rest of our Friday evening was spent walking the strip, exploring Grand Canal Shoppes (a 500,000 square foot mall) and we ended the night with dinner at Ra Sushi (yum).

Vegas – Day 2

The turn up is real?

Saturday, our day began with brunch and bottomless mimosas at HEXX Kitchen and Bar. We thought we had a celebrity sighting (James Corden – Car Karoake), but it was a false alarm. After brunch, we did a little shopping, then back to the hotel to get ready for Frank Marino’s DIVAS.

About the Show:

DIVAS – This show was AMAZING! The cast of female impersonators performed (in true DIVA fashion) all of the best hits from Tina Turner, Cher, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston to name a few. Frank Marino is so funny, he literally had the audience laughing before and in-between each set. On a 10 point scale, I’d give it a 10! I highly recommend it, and the bonus is, if you are staying in LINQ HOTEL it’s right in the hotel on the 3rd floor.

Later that evening we put our walking shoes back on to enjoy a nice dinner. Imagine my excitement when we ran across NOBU. Now, to be honest the only time I’ve heard of NOBU is in a 2CHAINZ song, but hey! If it’s good enough for 2 CHAINZ, it will work for me. The ambience, service and food were all 5 ⭐️ stars.

NOBU is where Vegas – Day 2 ended, because when we made it back to the room… we were sleep by 9:30p.m. (I’m not old)

Vegas – Day 3

Vegas is a PARTY city, and is something I wish I would’ve done in my 20’s. Overall this was a relaxing getaway and I can now say, I’ve experienced VEGAS!

Fashionably Mimi Turns 39!

Thursday, March 15th kicked off the beginning of my BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS (my actual birthday is March 16th). I had a GRAND few days of spending time with family and friends; and have the pictures to prove it!

Celebration Day 1 – Drive Thru Safari

My sister (Chaun Vaughn Speaks), our boys and I traveled 2 hours to Franklin,Texas to interact with exotic animals from around the globe at The Franklin Drive Thru Safari. This was an experience unlike any other. We arrived, purchased feed and rolled the windows down so we could roll through the safari and feed some animals!

You’d never believe all of the animals that this place has adopted. What a great way to kick off my birthday.

Celebration Day 2 – Skate Party

Friday, March 16th (MY ACTUAL BIRTHDAY) I had a Wiz themed “Feeling Fine at 39” Roller Skating Party. Houston Just Rolling Skating Rink , located off Sam Houston Parkway is where the magic happened! Friends and family came dressed in their GOLD, RED, and GREEN attire (like the Emerald City on The Wiz) as we took to the floor to skate like we were in our teens.

Keopix, the nation’s leading modernized photo booth company was there to help create a unique experience for my guests. I would say, the highlight of the evening was when DJ Cole played a clip from The Wiz, so we could EASE ON DOWN THE ROAD (the roller rink floor) and we started a train. I was the conductor of a full blown train-wreck, LOL! We made 1 lap, 2…. almost 2 laps and then… DOWN GOES FRASIER! Ha, ha. What a good time!

Check out some of the pics from the evening, and make sure you check out Houston Just Rolling Skating Rink and Keopix for your next party.

Celebration Day 3 – Mimi’s Derby Hat, Jeans & Tea Party

Friends, Laughs, and Tea…… which ended in a crawfish run. Check out the pics, no words can describe the great conversation that was had.

Crawfish Time

Celebration Day 4 – Brunch at Olivette

This was the best Birthday yet; and I am happy for NEW BEGINNINGS as I start 39th YEAR OF LIFE.

A little “PEACE” of Happiness

Quietly tucked away, deep in the woods of Eustace, Texas is what I call a little “PEACE” of happiness; or Cedar Cove Ranch. This 5-star resort is perfect for a getaway with friends and family, fishing, hiking or even a place to host your next big event.

I was recently there celebrating with my sister for her 42nd Birthday, and this was truly a #GirlsTrip to remember. When we drove through those wrought iron gates and made our way down that dirt road, the hustle and bustle of the outside world were all left behind. As we pulled up to The Grand Chateau , we were greeted by Steve, our on site tour guide and overall welcoming committee.

This was the perfect backdrop for Chaun Vaughn’s #DaisyDukesAndBoots photo shoot, and all other “instagram worthy” pics. Want to go camping, but don’t want to pitch that tent? This is a GLAMOROUS CAMPING (#Glamping )experience that anyone would enjoy. Don’t believe me? Check some of the pics out below, and make sure you book your stay with Cedar Cove Ranch…………Tell them Fashionably Mimi sent you.
